Off topic of Colorado politics but something I’m curious about…
Does anyone know what happened to Ralph’s MakeMeRalph blog? Is he done with it?
Check out Holtzman in the ROcky today. Not only coming out strong on C&D, but taking some very. very aggressive shots at Beauprez. It looks like the game is on, whether Beauprez wants it or not.

Poll results are in for Paccione, she’s down only 46 to 40.

Best part: the picture of Angie. It reminds me of the running of the bulls in Pamplona…
Marc has always been a moderate except that he attached himself to Reagan to get ahead, just as he did with Owens. His shift on C and D is just the rankest of opportunism–like his entire career, it is always about how Marc gets ahead. Colorado will never elect a guy from Pennsylvania who has only lived–part time–in Colorado for eight years. Trial lawyers call this “jury shopping”…with his money Marc simply went out and found himself a state.
Watching: get over it. Mark is running – whether you like it or not. The best Republican will come forward after the primary, and both will be made better by the process.
Getoverit–Ihave no doubt he is running and was not trying to dissuade Marc…was just stating some facts which you did not even try to rebut. The one fact that ism clear is that the only reason Marc is running is because of his NEED to run, not because of any grassroots groundswell. Marc is clearly the least electable Repoublican to seriously attempt running for Governor since the 1970’s. The only assets he has are deep pockets and an all-consuming ambition.
“Marc is running is because of his NEED to run.” That’s funny… I’ve heard the exact same comment coming from my friends over in 7CD, except they say it in reference to Bob B.
getoverit – please elaborate – why exactly does BB ‘have’ to run?
lmfao; just read that rocky article. MH is hysterical. i absolutely cannot WAIT to see him and BB on a stage during the debates. as if the obvious physical differences won’t separate the candidates, BB is going to go to town on poor Marc.
So MH, let me get this straight – 2 months ago, BB said he was not going to rush into a decision. Since then, he’s come out against C&D. Since when is taking the time to make an informed decision evidence of poor leadership?
Granted that’s not how Napolean would do things so I guess MH would see it that way, but still…
btw, am i the only one who has noticed the striking similarity between MH and the power-mad principal from The Breakfast Club? (played by Paul Gleason)

I heard John Andrews informed MH and BB they had to be against Ref C & D if they wanted a chance to win the primary. Does anyone know if that’s true or urban myth?
watcher
I met MH today; he went over really well at the event I attended. He seems very electable to me, what am I missing?
Regarding a previous question posted, Dirk said the bus tour is still on but they do not have a start date yet.
Becky–Didn’t you post just a few days ago that “Dirk” said the long-awaited bus trip would start soon? And if you are in such constant contact with Dirk is it any surprise that you feel that MH “went over really well”?
What’s BB up to? I have yet to see anything more than the one-page wonder web site, and other than a few small meet ups here in Arapahoe, he doesn’t seem to be campaigning much. What am I missing? Is it still true he will announce his race (officially) this fall?
I posted that the bus tour would be in September. The bus tour is still on. There are lots of arrangements to be made to make it not only cover the state but be successful.
Since the Holtzman campaign just got their headquarters and are in the midst of moving/starting, they are juggling but moving forward on all fronts.
Beauprez is worried about fundraising. MH has him worried.
I heard the BB girls were let go and replaced with some Rich guy? What’s the deal – is there a staff shake up over in the Bob headquarters?
No goper, it wasn’t me who mentioned Dirk before, but I did see him at the same event and ask him about the bus tour. The negative tone in your post adds to my curiosity about what it is I’m missing about the MH campaign. Do you know something I don’t about him or are you just a big BB supporter?
Becky, I just think MH seems like someone who is all sales, little substance. I saw what the Dems did to a good, solid business guy like Pete Coors to make him look bad. With MH there are so many unanswered questions, like how did he really make his money–was it really based on federal money given due to his political connections? And then we hear about Elway riding his bus, George Foreman riding his bus..but no bus in June, no bus in July and now no bus in August…but maybe September. Then it was Nancy Reagan endorsing soon–but now she isn’t. Then he’s getting married to Kirsten in August in Aspen or September in New Zealand [really!] No wonder the Dems want to make him look good, if he only doesn’t self-destruct before they get to him.
Anyone hear Culpepper’s interview on Colorado Springs Radio this morning? Very revealing or at least I thought so. It ties into the open thread we had the other day.
Wanna spill the details? hmmmmm?
Link for that interview? Alot of us would like to hear what Culpepper had to say.
You might be right goper, but I think it will all shake out in the process, it always does. If MH isn’t all he’s cracked up to be, the Dems and the press will make sure we know it. My only point was that he presented well, sounded good, and was well received. Potential skeletons aside, he looked like he could compete with BB on a statewide level. Sometimes people without a voting record to exploit do well in elections, if they aren’t undermined by a shaky past or political inexperience. (Coors on the latter)
My concern about BB is the general election, not the primary. Colorado is no longer red, it is at best purple, and I think the voters want moderate candidates to win, not far right or left individuals. With a voting record and Delay connections to exploit, BB will be easy to depict as an extremist.
please tell — what did culpepper say?
I tend to agree with Becky concerning a vote record of Beauprez. As, I think, Candy pointed out, BB is the only canidate – on both sides – with a vote record to be exploited in both a primary and general election.
He has two difficult races ahead of him, and I’m not sure, myself, that he can win both while still serving the state (honorably) on ways n means.
Geeorge was on Ted Robertsons show in the Springs and he was explaining why he left Colorado and where he’s working etc. Degette apparently gave him some crap in that newsletter of hers about him abandoning his post. But I guess he moved to be closer to his family. He also revealed that he’s engaged to be married, which I have to say is a relief and also very reavealing. As some of you may remember awhile back a thread about this guy and if he had a girlfriend, then people accused him of cheating etc. The thread got shutdown completely because people where being way out of line. But now we know Culpepper kept her a secret and he’s been with her long enough to be engaged to her. Apparently he didn’t cheat which I have to say is a ha!! in all of those people’s faces who said he did! The whole interview was pretty good and I sensed that he isn’t a big fan of the Colorado GOP.
George is right to be annoyed with the ColoGop – and I understand he came to understand who his *real friends* are in this business over the last few months.
George, if you’re out there, you’re welcome back any time, man. We’ll find you a place, you’re one of us, and we’ll continue to watch your back.
I love people like getoverit who, when asked to elaborate on their absurd statements, are suddenly silent. there’s your answer then i guess…
votecount – Becky brought up BB’s voting record, not me, fwiw.
Candyraver, but you’re the one who misspoke. getoverit said “need” – you misinterpreted it as “have”.
It’s quite a spin to try and say Beauprez’s record is a liability, especially when none of his opponents have one…
Glad you understand how it works, then.
As we speak, in Jeffco, the Dems are meeting to share oppo research on Beauprez; the Bridges, Ritter, Permutter and Lamm camps will at least work together on this front, and their files will be large, I’m sure.
Culpepper will spread backstabbing and dissention wherever he goes. The best thing he can do for the Party is become a Democrat.
I’m wondering if the Dems are forgetting the sharp, negative campaigns that tanked Dave Thomas?
You think he will take attacks lying down? You think he doesn’t have some pretty good op research of his own?
Who are the lambs and lions in this contest?
Don
So Oppo, you’re a Dem then? I always figured you for a Holtzman supporter…
Any negatives on Beauprez have been pretty well fleshed out during the last two campaigns, but if you have any scoop on Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny starting a 527, please share.
But Holtzman? What does the public really know about him, other than that he’s recently running after the moral high ground on C & D?
No Dice, Defero. I won’t be sharing with you, for the sake of this focus group, the oppo we have on Beauprez.
Yeah, I heard Culpepper’s interview and it sounded like he has a decent job. I was surprised about the position he took in Alaska and it certainly shows is real character. In the interview he said he took a job with a faith based organization that gets kids off the streets. I guess he is their Community Outreach person. This is certainly a good move on his part and I commend him for it. Handling troubled kids isn’t easy. Ted Robertson also said he would have Culpepper on his show every so often as a political analyist. I think Colorado will be seeing more of Culpepper in the future. GO CULPEPPER!
I think BS has some issues or personally knows for a fact that Culpepper has backstabbed someone. I’d be interested to know what the true facts are since your so sure you know him. I agree with I heard it sounds like Culpepper has a great job and is moving on with his professional and personal life. Good for him.
hmmmm,
I agree. The only person I can think of that really has/had a beef with Culpepper was Scott Russell. Almost everyone knew he didn’t like Culpepper. But, I also thought it was cool of Culpepper to give up what he loved the most to be closer with his family. In the interview, he also mentioned that his father had cancer. I didn’t know that about him. I guess I commend the guy for keeping his personal life personal and his professional life professional. Wish other politicians were the same way!
thinkin & getoverit – pardon my misquote. Let me rephrase:
please elaborate on why BB NEEDS to run.
Defero V- you really bug me sometimes ya know. Your posting under a pseudonym on a blog, it’s ok to admit a weakness in your candidate here and there. I mean, having a voting record to exploit in negative ads, particularly a voting record so in line with Delays, is going to be a little bit of a hinderance. Does it mean he can’t win? aboslutely not. Does it mean he’s not the favorite? No, he certainly is the favorite. So stop being such a freaking BB homer- it’s already getting annoying and the election is 15 months away. If I wanted to read BB’s talking points I’d just call Marshall.
Zilk, I’m sorry if it bugs you but don’t go calling the kettle black. You use a pseudonym, I use a pseudonym, Jason used a pseudonym… it’s what gives this blog its flavor.
If you want to try and go nuclear on Beauprez’s conservative record, fine. Go for it. But let’s at least make it to 2006 before we start running a good man’s name through the mud.
If MH and the Dems are hoping the Delay link (which was fuzzy at best to begin with) is going to play a year from now, i think they will be mistaken. the public, in general, has a VERY short memory and in a year won’t ever remember that they cared about ‘the delay thing.’ and in fact, by bringing it up, BB’s opponents are only going to be shining a big bright spotlight on the fact that they have no more bullets left in the gun.
Don’t forget Candyraver, Delay may still be making himself an issue in ’06.
true enough. seems like a strange bet to make though. of course when you don’t really have anything else, strange bets end up being all you’ve got.
True. candyraver….true.
